HOW TO DO AN INDEPENDENT MOVIE by CARLOS ATANES

HOW TO DO AN INDEPENDENT MOVIE (in Spanish only for the moment)

"LOS TRABAJOS DEL DIRECTOR"
This filmmaking handbook teaches what film schools don't teah
Essay, 156 pgs.

Los Trabajos del Director (The Director's Works) is a guided visit to the (very) independent cinema's bowels, a critical review of direction's hackneyed subjects (creative process, work with actors or planning of sequences, among others), a statement in the digital revolution age and a call to all those who want to plunge in the exciting adventure of directing movies. Carlos Atanes reveals in this book the secrets that have allowed him to direct and to produce uninterrupted indy movies in almost all the known formats throughout twenty years.

This book (centred principally on the feature film, though everything what it says can be applied equally to the shortfilm making) suddenly solves, from the unusual filmmaker personal optics, many of the doubts that assault the new filmmaker (or not so new) when he faces conditions of very low budget, planning of sequences, work with cast and crew, sex sequences and prejudices too much extended on the story-board, eroticism, racords and digital cinema, among many other things.

"There are many books on how making films, but very few realistic, direct, amusing and inspiring books which tell you how to do cinema when you do not have cash but just nerve. "Los Trabajos del Director" explains EVERYTHING closely at the same time as he entertains you. A necessary book in the library of every director that begins to giving his first steps and for the film lovers in general. I am sure that, in the course of time, this new book written by Carlos Atanes will turn into a classic one."
(Rafael fernández "Ezcritor", Micabeza.com)

"Atanes expresses very clearly and he is pleasant and interesting, at par that enterteining, ironic and incisive. [...] In fact, one of the mainsprings that moved him to write this essay, was because he was feeling need to finish with quantity of hackneyed subjects that exist in the art of filmmaking, of nature so dogmatic as useless; in each chapter that compose the book he tries to question one to one, always from the wisdom that grants his own personal experience as filmmaker. And because of it all hisaffirmations, conclusions, advices, objections, filias and phobias etc., they have this dreg indeed, of genuineness or of veracity, and as consequence: an enormous capacity of conviction."
(Joseph B. McGregor, Anika Entre Libros)
