The IV Century A.D. is being too long. Augustine of Hippo hasn't solved up his doubts about paradoxical nature of time while civilization is suffering a long decandence that is carrying it to the end. But the end does not arrive. Paradoxically, time paradoxes save the saint's life and maintain it suspended until present days.
